Sunset Kayaking Meditation

‘Memorable!’

That was how I had described the sunset kayaking meditation after the session which 12 of us had signed up on the 27th April. This was the first time I had such feeling and experience while meditating. It's really hard to give a detailed explanation of the experience as it is beyond description, but I would like to encourage everyone especially the younger ones to participate such event if they have a chance in the near future. The experience is worth it, which explains why the limited slots were taken up in a short time.

The session started off with the introduction of the various 5 youth groups and highlights of their upcoming activities and events. SBMY was represented by Sherman Lim and Yeow Chong, who focused on Ace Camp'14 and B.I.G (Buddhist-Indie-Games - Sports Meet) which will be held in June and August respectively.

The session kicked off with some light kayaking after briefings from the various personnel. All of us are supposed to kayak to the middle of the reservior, and formed up into a line. Then, we have to stand up and pass the ball to the person next to us while our partner secure the kayak and vice versa.

After having some fun, all of us began to quiet down and began our meditation. Meditating on water was awesome, as the small waves of the water added on to the calming effect, and also the serenity. Sounds from the nature such as birds chirping were observed throughout the session. Even though the session only lasted for 30 minutes, but most of us couldn't agree more that we felt as if we had meditated longer than that.

Before the end of the event, Brother Lai Hock, founder of Ground-Up Initiatives (Balik Kampung), shared with us his experience and purpose behind the setting up of this non-profit organisation and reminded us to stay connected with the ground and nature.
